Power and elegance
In the communes of Rodern and Saint-Hippolyte, the Grand Cru Gloeckelberg is a steeply sloping terroir at the origin of the Ribeauvillé fracture field. The wines produced here are full-bodied, with fine, persistent acidity.
The Grand Cru Gloeckelberg, mainly located in Rodern with a small part in Saint-Hippolyte, has sloping hillsides facing south and south-east, creating a funnel effect for air circulation. Shaped by tectonic stresses to the west of the Vosges fault, this terroir has marked relief and fault rejections.
The soil of Gloeckelberg is mainly composed of granite. At the top, schistose and sandstone debris mingle with granite, resulting in a low useful water reserve, while at the bottom of the slopes, the accumulation of colluvium favours a better water supply.
The microclimate of central Alsace, sheltered by the Vosges mountains, means that the region receives less rainfall. With rainfall of between 600 and 700 mm per year, the Gloeckelberg enjoys ideal exposure, steep slopes, no obstacles to the east and moderate altitude, creating excellent thermal conditions for the early ripening of the Grand Cru grapes.

History and origin
The name of this Grand Cru comes from the Alsatian ‘Kleckelberg’, meaning “Mont aux clochettes”. Legend has it that witches once gathered here. Today, the magic belongs to the winemakers who seek to reflect the beauties and virtues of nature in their wines.
Emblematic grape varieties
Pinot Gris and Gewurztraminer make up over 95% of the wines produced from this Grand Cru..
These two grape varieties are perfectly suited to this terroir thanks to the earliness of the site and the hydric conditions, which stop the growth of the grapes and allow them to reach exceptional ripeness.
